NJ Governor Bans Import of Trophy Animals - National Humane Education Society

To New Jersey Governor Christie for signing a pair of bills that will ban the transportation of endangered trophy animals  into the United States.

National Geographic published an article this past February about the number of trophy animals imported into the United States daily.  The results were astounding; 345 animalrhinos-382401_1920 carcasses and “trophies” are imported daily. This number is alarmingly high considering the number of individuals who oppose trophy hunting for the cruel sport that it is. These animals, many of whom are rare, were never meant to be mounted to a wall or to adorn someone’s floor. Rather they should be appreciated for the magnificent beings they are in the wild.

New Jersey Governor Christie has passed two bills that will prevent trophy hunters from importing their endangered animal parts through New Jersey airports and all Port Authority facilities. According to a recent news article, Governor Christie passed these bills saying that he is “confident that the body parts of endangered animals will no longer be welcome in New Jersey.” He is hoping it will deter many from continuing to hunt endangered species. The only exception to this bill would be those who are transporting under a special permit or their destination is not New Jersey.

Take Action: New Jersey residents, contact Governor Christie and thank him for passing these bills.
