Spay Today

Spay Today, also located on the NHES Campus, became a program of NHES in 2001 and serves as a tangible example of NHES’ endorsement of spaying and neutering as part of the humane solution to ending the overpopulation of cats and dogs and thereby ending the commonplace practice of euthanasia of healthy animals as a means of population control.

Spay Today provides reduced-cost spay/neuter services through a network of participating veterinarians to people who understand the need to spay/neuter their companion animals but cannot afford the normative fees that are charged for those procedures.

Originally founded in 1994 with one part-time employee and two part-time veterinarians performing approximately 500 reduced-cost spay/neuter procedures per year, Spay Today has grown to include a full staff and a network of 13-plus participating veterinarians who serve the quad-state of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania who now perform nearly 4,000 spay/neuter procedures per year.

As of 2021, Spay Today has surpassed a major milestone by performing over 80,000 spay/neuter procedures.
