Paws Up!
To NY Governor Andrew Cuomo for passing “The Beagle Bill” to give research animals a chance at life.
In the United States, an exorbitant number of animals are needlessly tortured for research. Companion animals, particularly beagles, are subjected to a life devoid of comfort punctuated painful tests. They are not able to experience frolicking in the sun, or the feel of fresh cut grass under their feet while investigating an intriguing scent.
According to a recent news article, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has passed a law giving research animals a hopeful ray of freedom that otherwise would have ended in death. The new law states that research animals retired from labs will first be evaluated by a licensed veterinarian and then be released for adoption to shelters or rescue groups. Although this law does not ban animal research, it is absolutely a move in the right direction.
