New York Gives Research Animals Hope - National Humane Education Society

Paws Up!

To NY Governor Andrew Cuomo for passing “The Beagle Bill” to give research animals a chance at life.

In the United States, an exorbitant number of animals are needlessly tortured for research. Companion animals, particularly beagles, are subjected to a life devoid of comfort punctuated painfuldog-888025_1280 tests. They are not able to experience frolicking in the sun, or the feel of fresh cut grass under their feet while investigating an intriguing scent.

According to a recent news article, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has passed a law giving research animals a hopeful ray of freedom that otherwise would have ended in death. The new law states that research animals retired from labs will first be evaluated by a licensed veterinarian and then be released for adoption to shelters or rescue groups.  Although this law does not ban animal research, it is absolutely a move in the right direction.
