Libre’s Law to Fight Animal Cruelty in PA Is One Step Closer to Passing - National Humane Education Society

Paws Up!

To the Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committee for unanimously approving a bill to allow felony charges against those who cause harmful acts against animals when those acts result in serious bodily injury or death.

Earlier this year, NHES wrote about the introduction of Libre’s Law in the state of Pennsylvania. Libre’s Law is not actually a “law” — at least not yet. Currently,  this bill aims to allow felony charges against the worst animal cruelty offenders. The bill was introduced for the first time in 2016, after a Boston terrier puppy was miraculously rescued by a good Samaritan and nursed back to health by loving caretakers.  This was one of the worst-ever cases of neglect in the state of Pennsylvania. The bill was unanimously passed by the Senate, but unfortunately died later in the House.

According to a recent news article, Libre’s Law has once again unanimously been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. For the sake of animals in Pennsylvania, it is imperative that the bill be voted upon and passed during the 2017 legislative session.

Take action: Pennsylvania residents, contact your legislators and urge them to support Libre’s Law.
