DIY Feral Cat Shelter - National Humane Education Society

Winter is a hard time to be a homeless animal, but with a little do-it-yourself magic, you can help make a feral cat’s life a little easier this season. While we wish that every cat in America had a forever home, that is not a reality for many feral cats who were born in the wild or have been abandoned by their owners and can no longer assimilate into domestic life.

Chances are, you have seen stray or feral cats in your neighborhood huddling together, trying to keep each other warm. You can easily help them out this winter by making a DIY feral cat shelter with just a few simple items:

  • One large and one smaller plastic storage container (the smaller one should easily fit inside the large one)
  • Straw
  • Styrofoam boards
  • Tape
  • A flat barbell weight
  • Two 2X4’s
  • Box cutters

If you are caring for feral cats, please remember that the most important and humane way to care for their future is to get them spayed or neutered as soon as possible.

Our representatives at Spay Today can help you find reduced-cost spay/neuter procedures for your animals.
