Camp Policies

Registration

  • Please register your children for camp according to the grade they will enter in the upcoming school year.
    • Young campers must have successfully completed kindergarten to be eligible for registration for Pet Pals.
  • Registration fees are $175 per camper for Pet Pals and $200 per camper for Humane Heroes and Animal Advocates. (A small processing fee is added to each registration.)
    • Fees help cover camp expenses such as art and craft supplies, camper gifts, and snacks.
  • Camp space is limited and slots fill quickly. Please submit registration and payment online.
    • Accepted registrations will receive a timely notice of camp placement.
    • Questions can be directed to the humane educators at education@nhes.org or 304-725-0506.
    • Registrations received after a camp week has filled will go on a waiting list in case a space opens.
    • To ensure a quality experience for all campers, children will not be placed in open weeks that do not fit their grade level.

Cancellation

  • A fee of 25 percent is applied to cancellations made within 30 days prior to the start of a registered camp date. Cancellations made earlier than 30 days from camp start will receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations made less than 14 days from the start of a registered camp date will not be refunded.
  • NHES and BAAC reserve the right to cancel camps and/or sessions.
If a camp is cancelled, a full refund will be provided. If a session is cancelled, a pro-rated refund will be provided.

Children with Special Needs

  • We welcome all children and will work to accommodate campers with special needs within our ability to do so. We may request parental or guardian assistance to help us achieve that goal.
  • If you would like to register a child with special needs, please contact us at 304-725-0506 to speak with a humane educator and determine if the camps are appropriate for your family.

Behavioral Requirements

  • All campers must abide by a standard of conduct which includes: following staff and volunteer directions, demonstrating respectful and safe interaction with animals and other campers, and respecting NHES property and grounds. Campers who do not meet the standard of conduct may be removed from one or more camp activities. If a camper’s behavior repeatedly impedes camp activities or threatens the safety of any person or animal, the camper may be dismissed from the program without a refund.
