To Senator Bob Dearing, D-Natchez, for his efforts to pass better animal protection laws in the state of Mississippi.
In the fall of 2017, more than fifty pit bulls (including skeletal remains) were found in Adams County, Mississippi after an anonymous tip to local law enforcement. Many of the dogs were starving, too weak to stand. Others were carrying ghastly wounds and broken limbs. Tommy McQueen, the property owner, was located and released on bond. Some Mississippi lawmakers, including Sen. Bob Dearing, hope the awful case will provide the momentum needed to pass improved state laws against animal cruelty.
Take action. Residents of Mississippi, contact your legislators and urge them to pass new laws to better punish and prevent dog fighting and violence against animals.

Re: Need for stricter penalties for dog fighting in Mississippi
Dear [Name of Legislator],
My name is [Your Name] and I am writing to encourage you to support legislation to increase penalties for dog fighting and other forms of animal cruelty. Dog fighting, in particular is a lucrative multi-state black market industry that usually occurs in tandem with other forms of organized crime including drug trafficking and illegal gambling. The impact on the dogs who suffer horribly for their captors’ profit is unimaginable. The impact on the animal shelters, rescues, and animal control units who must deal with the impact of dog fighting also must be considered. Most of all, people in Mississippi, as elsewhere, who are capable of such wanton and large-scale violence are a danger to our state. Please support legislation to combat dog fighting and violence again animals.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
