    Allergies & Loved Ones

There are several things you can do if a family member has allergies to pets!

    • Make sure the household vacuum cleaner is clean, including the bag each time the vacuum is used.  Removing the bag with the dust particles helps to eliminate many allergens from the home.

    • Cover chairs, sofas and beds with a sheet or coverlet that may be removed before people with pet allergies use them.

    • Employ this good rule of thumb: the less carpeting, the better!  Hard-surface flooring allows for easier cleaning and less attraction for allergens.

    • Use air purifiers, which are readily available at your local houseware store.  Many folks swear by them for making the indoor environment cleaner.

    • Visit natural food stores to learn about different remedies that may be an option, such as colloidal silver, which is an immune stimulator that has worked to relieve the allergies of some people.

    • Visit the family doctor to learn about options they may offer as well.

    • Finally, in the case of extreme allergies with cats, consider confining the kitty to one area of the home with a window view, scratching post, radio, and little play/resting condo.  This set-up will ensure your cat’s and the family’s comfort while still enjoying life together!
