Free To Good Home Ads are Dangerous
Though you may have good intentions, please be aware that unscrupulous people frequent "Free to Good Home" advertisements and they may see the free animal as:
- Bait to train fighting dogs
- Bait to train greyhounds
- Fish bait
- Snake food
- Money from a research laboratory
- Sacrifice for satanic rituals
- Innocent victim for malicious pranks
- A breeding machine if not spayed or neutered
If you place a "Free to Good Home" ad, please do all that you can to ensure that the pet goes to a truly GOOD home! The following will help you in placement:
- Charge an adoption fee
- Screen individuals thoroughly/veterinarian references are suggested
- Meet with the entire potential adoptive family, including children
- Spay or neuter animal before adoption
- Make a home visit
- Have new pet meet any existing animals in the home/check behaviors
- Require (in writing) that if the adoption does not work out, the animal MUST BE returned to you
